U.S. States arranged by date of statehood |
The following is a list of U.S. states in
chronological order by date of statehood.
Each of the 50 states comprising the United
States of America are listed in order by the
date each individual state joined the United
States Union. One could certainly consider
all 13 original colonies to be members of the
United States from the date of the Declaration
of Independence, July 4th, 1776, or from the
date of ratification of the Articles of
Confederation. Since each subsequently ratified
the present United States Constitution, they
are presented in that order.
Confederate States
The dates of statehood on this list do not
account for the secession during the American
Civil War of several Southern states to form
the Confederate States of America or the
subsequent restoration of those states to
the U.S. following the Civil War.
